Are you living consciously? - A questionnaire.

11/29/2016

I'm paying much more attention to whether I live my life as fully as I can because I realized that I've been letting days pass by just like that for too long. Without significance, just rushing through time. Maybe you notice it, too, and would like to change something about that mindset as you go through your day.

Based on this guide to living your life consciously from Zen Habits, I personally, honestly answered these following questions in ways that made me realize that, no, I'm not living consciously like I should.

01. Are you working in a job that you accepted or fell into rather than the job you actually want?

I'm actually positive that I picked a subject to study in college for that I love and I think fits me pretty well. And my first part-time job was definitely something I fell into but I quit to do something I enjoy much more.

02. Are you actually doing what you love to do?

I'm happy that I can answer this question by saying that yes, I do a lot that I actually love to do, like blogging, making music, writing stories and photography. But then again there are things I love to do that I cannot do because of money and time, like for example traveling.

03. Are you spending your time doing busy work rather than what you actually feel like doing with your days?

I'm a college student and work part-time so my answer is my days are actually packed with work to do almost every day. Of course I would rather spend my days differently but you have to do what you've got to do. And I do get myself some me-time and off-days to relax and do what I like.

04. Do you wish you could spend more time with your loved ones?

Oh, definitely. I would love to spend much more time with my mum and my sister who don't even live so far away, yet I don't have the time to get to see them. I would love to see the guy I love much more because we live an hour and a half away from each other. I would love to see my family in Vietnam much more but that's just not possible every year. And now so much time has passed that all the babies have grown up and probably forgotten about me, my cousins all are at work now or moved away with their partners. Time flies and life doesn't wait for anyone... I get it now.

05. Do you find yourself overweight because you’ve been eating the food you’ve been eating for years and stuck in a rut of not exercising?

I don't think I'm overweight but I could definitely eat healthier and more consciously. It's become a habit to eat the things that I like but aren't so healthy. I'm oftentimes too lazy to get up and exercise and I should definitely do it more.

06. Do you find yourself living from paycheck to paycheck or in debt, not knowing where your money goes?

This question defines me. Yes. Not really in debt but yes, I live from paycheck to paycheck. But it's mostly because I am a dependent college student that tends to be broke by the end of the month.

07. Do you find yourself wasting your time doing things that aren’t important rather than focusing on completing the things that are very important?

No, actually, I think it depends on what I view as priorities. Say I've got a lot to do for work or uni. I will do that as soon as I can because those things are important to me. When someone I love is sick or feeling unwell, I will ditch that party or that drink and drive to them. I don't really do things first when they're not important to me.

08. Do you go through your days not thinking about what you want out of life and how to get it?

This hits me hard. Because yes, I actually just let the days pass me by with a blink and then wonder what I actually got done. I just work and study for the next day, for the next weeks, for the next months. Sure, I have plans in mind but what I really want out of life is somehow just in the back of my head. Maybe because I fear that what I want out of life might mean big, scary changes or sacrifices or something that can't ever be achieved. So I just live every day not wallowing in it much. Maybe I should do that and listen to myself and what life means to me and what I want it to be for me.

How did you answer these questions? Comment below, I'd love to hear your answers!
Hope you have a lovely week ahead. Stay tuned for my next post on living consciously, on how to actually live consciously!

Until then - stay present,
Arden
