New York Dreaming

8/17/2015

"Give me such shows - give me the streets of Manhattan!" (Walt Whitman)

I'd really love to live in New York City in an apartment with big windows so I can have natural light and place little plants everywhere and watch the sun rise and set every single day as I read a good book in bed and drink a cup of tea while listening to some relaxing music with the noisy traffic in the background.

I want to see all the other apartment houses and how some of the people living in them are still up in the middle of the night because so many lives are being lived around me, not stopping for a moment. It would all be so exciting.

And I'd be in the middle of the city and surrounded by every lively thing, so many people and I'd create my own little world among so many other little worlds which mine could collide with. I want cool artsy friends who will accompany me to concerts, museums, to the movies and enjoy rad musicals with me.

I want them to go on walks in the middle of the night with me to grab McDonalds at four in the morning and sit in my apartment with them and talk about nothing as we stare out of the massive windows and enjoy the sight of all the lives around us.

I want to walk down the streets and blend in, I want to sit in coffeeshops and write a chapter or two and watch other people and wonder about them. I want to break free, I want to experience new things, live a new life, start over, feel new, know the possibilities, bump into the unknown.

Bump into you.

From the girl who's always dreamed of NYC,
Arden.

  1. For years I've dreamed of working and living in New York! Even though it is miles away from home across the Atlantic, there definitely is something magical about the city :) x

  3. This is beautiful. I often dream of living in an apartment in the city, but instead on the other side of the country, in Seattle. I love how the woods are only a small drive away and all the people I've met on my visits are wonderful.
I've never been to NYC myself, but everyone I know that has ever been there is starstruck and has the same dreams as yourself. Infact, my best friend wants to live there. If she ever does, and then if I ever follow my dream, we'll be on opposite coasts of the country. How strange and adventurous.

  4. this is beautiful(: i totally vibe with this. not for new york specifically, but i've always wanted to live in a city for pretty much the same reasons as you. growing up in the suburbs, i don't get a huge sense of being surrounded by life, so i've always wanted to experience living within that kind of energy

  7. Pretty ironic how I ended up here because today I was just thinking about how lovely NYC is. With that said, this pretty much sums up all the feels I have for New York City. Thank you for this, it brought me back to a place filled with nostalgia. x

  15. Oh dear, New York is my favourite place in the world - I've only visited there twice, but all the same, I think it is closer to home than anywhere else I've been. There is something extraordinarily magical, even nestled in the most mundane things, don't you think?

  16. I'm from NYC! Not gonna lie and say that it isn't awesome but it definitely also has its cons. If you ever come to visit, pass a hello and maybe we can lunch!
